TELAGA WARNA

Once upon a time, there was a kingdom in West Java. The Kingdom was ruled by His Majesty Prabu. Prabu was a kind and wise king. The people lived in prosperity and peacefulness.
The life in the palace seemed to be perfect. However, Prabu and his queen hadn’t got any children. It made them verysad. They prayed to God every day. Some old men and women suggested the king to adopt a child. Nevertheless, Prabu and the queen didn’t agree.

“We’d better to have our own daughter or son” Prabu insisted.

The queen became sadder and sadder day by day. She started to be frustrated. Then, Prabu decided to leave the palace for awhile. He went to the jungle. There he prayed to God. Everyday he begged for a child. God felt pity with him and made his dream came true. Several months later, the queen got pregnant. Prabu and the queen was very thankful to God.

“Thanks God, You are the Compassionate and the Merciful.”

All people in the kingdom celebrated the queen’s pregnancy. They sent many presents to the palaceto express their happiness.
Nine months later a beautiful baby was born. The queen was so happy. The people in the kingdom blessed the princess’ birth. They sent many kinds of presents again. They hoped that the baby would be a beautiful and kindhearted princess.

“His Majesty, we hope that she will be a beloved Princess in our kingdom. We hope she will be an obedient daughter and faithful to God,”

The princess was the only child in the palace, so Prabu and Queen loved their daughter so much. They gave anything she wanted. Consequently, the princess became spoiled girl. When her wish couldn’t be realized, she became very angry. It made her parents sad, but they can’t stop loving her.
The princess was an adult now. She would celebrate her 17th birthday in a few following days. So, people of that kingdom went to the palace and gathered in front of the gate. They brought many presents for her. There were many kinds of beautiful presents.

“My people are so kind. They love my daughter so much,” Prabu said cheerfully.

Prabu took the presents and stored them in a special bilding. Not all of the presents would be given to his daughter. He would take some other to his people who needed. Prabu only took some gold and jewels. Then he brought them to the goldsmith.

“Please make a beautiful necklace for my daughter,” Prabu ordered.
“With pleasure, His Majesty,” the goldsmith replied.

The goldensmith worked hard to create the most beautiful necklace that he ever made.
When the Princess’ birthday came, people from all the country gathered in the palace field. Prabu and queen appeared, people greeted and blessed them. Prabu and his wife waved to their beloved people.

          “God bless you, my people!”

In some moments, the princess appeared. She looked so pretty and charming. It seemed that no girl could compare to her. Everybody admired her beauty.

“I never see a beautiful girl like her,” said somebody
          “She is like an angel,”

The birthday procession started. Prabu stood to take something. A lady gave him a small glamorous pillow. A wondeful necklace was on it. Prabu took that necklace.

“My beloved daughter, i give this necklace to you. This necklace is a gift from people in this country. Don’t make them disappointed because they love you so much. You deserve to wear this beautiful necklace. Now, please wear this necklace. Make them happy,” said Prabu.

Princess accepted the necklace. She looked at the necklace at a glance. Unexpectedly, she said what should not said by a princess.

“The necklace is so bad. I don’t want to wear it!” the princess shouted.

Then she threw the necklace to the floor. The beautiful neclace was broken. The gold and jewels were spread out on the floor.
All of the people that gathered were shocked and couldn’t say anything. They never thought that their beloved princess would do that silly and impolite thing. Suddenly, people heard the queen was crying. Every woman felt sad and began to cry too. Then everybody was crying. The sound of people’s crying filled the space.
As all of the people were crying, the earth miraculously started to cry. The water came out endlessly. Suddenly, a spring rose from the underground. It became a pool of water. The palace sank into the pool. Soon the place became a big lake. The lake finally sank the entire kingdom. The lake is now called “Telaga Warna”. (Lake of Colour). It’s located in Puncak, West Java.
